This happened to me awhile back during the busiest time of day at supermarket. Just got new bank card and got the pin # mixed up. It took me a few minutes to get it figured out but it was embarassing as hell with 20 people waiting in line. One guy felt sorry for me and offered to pay (I declined). Cash is still the safe way to go.

As a banker i cant stress this enough. Getting overdraft fees is never going to benefit you. If you need to starve for a day do it. Bank fees will make you starve for 2 in the future. Otherwise that money coulve went into savings to help get out of the situation youre in. So many times i see people stuck in a loop because of it. And i cant help because they would put themselves right back in it.

I got few big payments processed after a long time of "dryness" and I finally went to a gas station and my card was declined. I quickly checked the account on phone and it shows me 0. I almost instantly die on the inside and I have to ask them not to call police, leave my ID there and go home for cash, which I coincidentally had. Got back to the gas station, and the very same stupid card worked, and balance on phone showed what it was supposed to. Since that day, I always have a backup cash I never touch (2 months and counting). Until that event, I never wore any cash.
